Student spotlight is where we feature Freedom students who have something unique and interesting to offer.

Nick Gagnon is a hard working student, with a positive outlook. He is a sophomore at our school, he has big plans, and a bright future ahead of him.
We asked him a variety of questions, beginning with what school programs, he participated in, if any. His response was “Yes, I’m in the Monticello Academy.” When the why part of the question came, he had an honest and simple answer, “To benefit my future.” Speaking of future, we asked him “What do you want your future career to be and why?” Nick responded confidently, “I’d like to be an engineer, because I’m interested in technology and working with mechanical objects, stuff like that.
Nick not only works hard, but juggles school work and two jobs. When asked if he had any jobs or hobbies, he informed us he works for Publix supermarket and also works at the Breakout Escape Room, and on top of that he tries to make time for hobbies which include playing the guitar, which he wanted to play after playing different instruments such as the trumpet and also the piano. Yes, he loves tinkering with things as well. He is a very busy person.
Continuing our questions, we asked, “Why did you decide to take on two jobs?”
Nick replied, “I took two jobs to pay for college, and things I need to get for college and everything.” When asked about his goals, he replied, “I do set goals for myself. I set a goal to get my permit the day I turned fifteen, that way I can get my license when I turn sixteen, and I did get my permit.”
As you can see, fellow students, Nick is already preparing for his future; he has goals and is doing all he can to meet them. He works hard, and says “I feel hard work helps you to achieve a fulfilling life and gets things done in the right way.” When asked what inspires him, he said, “Being successful and living a fulfilling life inspires me to do hard work.”
With all this hard work, one might ask if it can be a little stressful. Nick’s answer to that is this, when he gets stressed out he then tries to break things down a bit. The example he gave was this “In chemistry if you get stuck somewhere and have to work through it, do it one part at a time to eventually get through it.”
Moving on, for fun, we asked, “If you could have any superpower what would it be, and why?”
Nick answered: “I’d have the ability to fly because I like heights.” Next we asked who Nick’s role models are, in his words, “My parents are my role models. They are my role models because they always support me in what I do and help me achieve what I need. My family definitely does help to keep me going.”
I think you all can see why Nick Gagnon is in our student spotlight. He is a hardworking student who seems to have things figured out. He no doubt has a bright future ahead of him. We at the newspaper wish him much luck and success. Way to go Nick Gagnon!
