Despite everything going on in the news we should all take some time to remember that not everything recorded is bad. This was shown by a random act of kindness between three heavily conservative customers and a strong liberal waitress.
The difference in political views today has led to brawls across the line. People trying to defend their views and support the people behind them, leads to misconceptions about the people themselves. Any Trump supporter is soon to be seen as a racist with a homophobic and women-oppressing attitude. However, a man who is a Trump supporter, was able to defy all of these stereotypes by enacting in a selfless act.
One Monday morning on January 23rd, last year during Trump’s inauguration, three obvious Trump supporters walked into a very liberal restaurant. Its name is Busboys and Poets after an African American man who was a busboy and later became a musician. The men walk over to a booth and sit in waitress, Rosalynn Harris’s section of the restaurant. Her being a liberal and feminist, acknowledged their political beliefs, waiting on them with the same service she would give anyone. The men caused no trouble, and when they were done eating she brought them their check.
After the three men left, Rosalynn came back to collect the check. She was astounded by what she saw. The man who paid, Jason White, left a $450 dollar tip. His reason behind this amazing act was left on a note on the receipt, it said: “We may come from different cultures and may disagree on certain issues, but if everyone would share their smile and kindness like your beautiful smile, our country will come together as one people. Not race. Not gender. Just American. God Bless!”
Jason’s words are an inspiration and a way that people need to start thinking. America is a place for any person of any race, religion, or political belief to come and to be accepted. With that being said, this philosophy needs to no longer be an idea, but an action taken by the country. Our nation needs to stand together as one, a single body, not individuals. The country can only benefit from these ideas. Jason White set a perfect example of this and hopefully many will follow.
