Sand Lake – Fine Arts

Ensemble rehearsals start this week!

If you look at the calendar, you’ll notice I’ve only posted Orff and Chorus rehearsals. That’s because we don’t have enough students for Recorder or Stomp! yet. I am officially opening Stomp! to ALL 5th graders, not just bus riders. So if you want to join, you need to turn in that Stomp! paperwork ASAP. (Parents, you can also scan it and e-mail it to me at joshua.vinson@ocps.net).

If the recorder numbers stay low this year, I will shorten the rehearsal time to 30 minutes (8:00-8:30), and they will be more of a club than anything (possibly make a premiere for one song on our concert nights).

I added (and will continue to add) another module to the “music” tab. This one has printable resources (flash cards), so you can play and create your own rhythms at home. Hopefully by the end of the week I will have our rhythm practice updated all the way through whole notes and rests!

I have updated the ensemble sign-up pages to PDFs to make it easier to print at home. Remember you still have until Tuesday, Sept. 10th to get everything turned in. If you can’t print at home just shoot me an e-mail at joshua.vinson@ocps.net and I’ll be happy to give you a printed copy.

I have started adding “home practice modules” to the “Music” tab. These are to continue learning outside the music classroom. It takes a while to put one together, but I will keep adding more as I make them. Right now there aren’t any recordings, however I downloaded an app today that should allow me to transfer voice recordings from my phone onto my computer at home, so I will try to get some of those up later tonight. Don’t forget to sign-up for an ensemble!

I got the event calendar working today, so check out what is coming up. You can check events by clicking the “SLE Fine Arts Calendar” on the right hand menu. Make sure to keep an eye on it, because I will be adding more events once we get the dates approved by administration. Have a great weekend!

Ensemble sign-ups will start soon, please remember the following:

Chorus is open to 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade, and has unlimited enrollment

Orff is open to 4th and 5th grade, and has an enrollment limit of 20 students (first come, first serve, based off of the time stamp from the front office when the paperwork is turned in)

Recorder is open to 4th and 5th grade, and has unlimited enrollment

Stomp! is open to 5th grade bus rides, and has an enrollment limit of 15 students (first come, first serve, based off of the time stamp from the front office when the paperwork is turned in)

Our SLE Fine Arts website is up and running!!

There isn’t a whole lot on it right now, however we have the Ensemble Agreement Forms (chorus, orff, recorder, and stomp) and the recorder belts.
