Good morning! I hope everyone had a great first week here at SLE. We are ready to sign-up for ensembles and you can find our ensemble paperwork here:

We had to push back our rehearsal times due to the new instructional start time this year. All rehearsals will begin at 7:40 AM and end at 8:10 AM. Here are our first rehearsal dates:

Tuesday, August 29th – Orff Ensemble

Thursday, August 31st – Chorus

Friday, September 1st – Recorder Club

I hope everyone’s summer was great and I am so excited to be back! I already have several ideas for our next few concerts and am looking forward to starting rehearsals. You can find the sign-up paperwork here: Ensemble Paperwork. Here are the dates for our first rehearsals:

Orff Ensemble: Tuesday, August 30th at 8:00 AM

Chorus: Thursday, September 1st at 7:45 AM

Recorder Club: Friday, September 2nd at 8:00 AM

 

We will also be using a new method of communication called “Remind 101.” It is an app that allows texts to be sent to parents. I will still be sending reminder e-mails for our rehearsals/schedule changes, however I will also be implementing reminders using the Remind 101 system.

I hope everyone had a wonderful summer and I can’t wait to start our ensembles again. I have added our newest unit: The Five-line Staff. This is the one of our biggest units, so you can expect to be tested on it. Make sure to check out the module I have added.

 I have finished our music test! We will be taking this graded test on the 17th week of school (12/16 – 12/20), that’s the week before winter break. If you miss the test due to absence, you will have to make it up in January. It is nice and short and (as long as you study some) it shouldn’t give you too many problems. Recorders have arrived! If your child missed his or her shot to buy a recorder at school from Mr. Veino, please purchase one at a local music store. To help with your purchase, I suggest printing out the following note and taking it with you to the store:

As I mention in the note, I highly suggest Music & Arts located in the Mall at Millenia. Take that paper with you and they will get you exactly what you need.

Please help remind your child to take his or her recorder to school whenever he/she has music class, we will be starting that portion of our curriculum next week. Feel free to e-mail me with any concerns or questions and thanks so much for all your support in furthering our students’ music education!

Recorders are coming to SLE soon! Ross Veino will be here Wednesday, October 30th to sell them for $7 (tax is already included) from 8:30-9:15 AM. This is the only day he will be out here this year, so if you are in 3rd-5th grade and need a recorder make sure to be here on the 30th! (If for someone reason you can’t make it, please let me know and I can help you find the “correct” recorder to buy for our classroom.)

I will be sending the paperwork with all the information you need next week, but you can also find it on the “music” page. Just click “2013 Recorder Purchase” and you can pull up/print out the PDF with everything you need to know.

 

On a different note, our Fall Festival is this Sunday! Our amazing Singing Stingrays (the SLE chorus) will be putting on a short concert right at 12:00, so make sure to get there early. Also, I will be in the Splash Blast at 12:30 (right after the concert) so come get revenge for all the times I hollered at you for talking in music class. 🙂

As of right now we only have a few students signed up for recorder ensemble. I anticipate that more people will join when we sell recorders in late October, however until that time I want to have short “rehearsals” for the few students who have already signed up. We will still meet on Thursday mornings before school, but only from 8:00 – 8:30 AM. If for some reason we don’t get enough students signed up, we will simply be the “recorder club” and will continue to meet once a week for a 30 minute rehearsal, but we will not be a performing group (with the exception of possibly making a guest appearance for one concert).

Chorus students, I have added lyrics and recordings to our “Chorus” tab. Please, please, please make sure to practice this weekend and throughout next week.

Also, I added another rhythm module (Whole Notes and Rests) and will be adding more next week. This was our last week of our rhythm unit, so make sure to keep practicing at home so you don’t forget all those rhythms!
