Last week we posted on our KidBlog for the first time! We did a “metacognition tweet” about regrouping in 2-digit addition. The kids did a great job for their first time! If you want to check it out, use the link at the top menu bar. Your child can log-in with the same password they use for Xtra Math. My hope is to use this website every couple of weeks for the students to share their thinking and reasoning on a variety of topics.
In this week’s Fridge Notes I mention 2 apps that you can download to help your child become more familiar with world maps and globes: “Atlas of the World” and “Globe for iPad.”
We’ve set a class goal to have all the students at 80% of their AR goals by Thursday, December 18th. If we can do that, then we will have hot chocolate around a “campfire.” 🙂 Please make sure your child is reading for 20 minutes each night and taking AR quizzes. Also, remember that there are 3 separate goals that all work together: points, comprehension, and level. In order to meet their overall goal, the students must have the correct number of points, have at least an 80% average comprehension score, and the book levels must be within their appropriate range. We have a few students who have met their points goal, but will still need to take quizzes in order to improve their comprehension score. I know it sounds complicated, so I tell the students to focus on checking out books on their dot color and always getting 80% or higher on the quizzes. As long as they do those things and take at least 1 quiz per week, then they should meet their goals!
There are no Challenging Spelling Words this week. Practice adding -s and -es endings to any base word for an extra challenge! Remember, you add -es if the base word ends in ch, sh, x, s, or z.
