Homework Log and Fridge Notes March 2nd + March Calendar

Due to testing in the intermediate grades, our schedule will change slightly on Tuesday, March 3rd. Our P.E. time will be from 10:00 to 10:40.

Our 2nd grade show is quickly approaching! It will be Thursday, March 12th. Students will need to be dropped off in our classroom at 6:10 and the show will begin at 6:30. Our music teacher, Ms. Buckley will be sending home a permission slip next week, but I wanted to give you a heads up about our class “costumes.” The theme is “Songs Around the World” and each class will be representing a different culture. Please see below for information from Ms. Buckley regarding our class:

Dress for the March 12th Performance

Second graders will be performing songs from or about various countries around the world. We will be performing songs from or about the following cultures: African, German, Israeli, Irish, Lebanese/Arabic, Chinese/Asian, Mexican/Spanish.  We tried to get to as many cultures as we could in our limited time; if you are interested in sharing a song from another culture with our second graders some time after the performance, please e-mail Mrs. Buckley. Classes will be divided up into various countries for dress depending on the supplies Mrs. Buckley already has.  Please feel free to add to your child’s outfit, as Mrs. Buckley will only be providing 1-2 basic items.  Below are some suggestions; do not stress if you do not have these items.  A nice dress shirt and slacks will also work for boys or girls or girls can also wear a nice dress or skirt and blouse.  You can find several more ideas by mom or dad googling traditional dress from that area of the world or simply searching online (please note, not all sites are age appropriate, so you may want to screen for your child).  Please make sure any outfit fits within the school dress code.  Your student’s outfit can be as intricate or simple as you both decide—have fun!  Here are some more specific ideas:

McBride (MEXICAN/SPANISH)- bright colored flowered dress for girls or white top and horizontal striped skirt (google Mexican dress); black pants or jeans with solid colored shirt, striped poncho if possible for boys or girls; Mrs. Buckley will provide Mexican hats, boutonniere, and belt sash for boys; Mrs. Buckley will provide red rose hair piece and belt sash for the girls
