Students perform dance number in end-of-year showcase.

On May 8, the Dance students had their end-of-year performance, “Dancing in the Spotlight.” In this showcase, all of the classes displayed their varying dance numbers they had been practicing on throughout the year. It consisted of 43 performances from all grade and skill levels. The showcase was held in the Performing Arts Center, with an entrance fee of $7. “Dancing in the Spotlight” was the year’s only performance, so there was a packed audience filled with family and friends.

Some dances revolved around famous musicians (such as, pop stars Madonna and Beyoncé), while others highlighted fan-favorite movies (“Mean Girls”).

The performance lasted two acts, which consisted of multiple dance numbers and costume changes. “We had about three major rehearsals for the class pieces, while for our group pieces we had separate rehearsals. Mrs. Perry would critique us on our technique and performance aspect,” said sophomore dance student Alyssa Alvarez.

“Performances such as this one really bring the dance program to light, and get more students involved and interested,” said sophomore Hayley Teagle, member of the dance program. “This is our only school performance the entire year, which is why I think most people came out — to support the dancers and see what we’ve got.”

The final number served as a farewell to graduating seniors. Many senior dancers such as Michael Ocampo, Markell Farnsworth-Moses, and Kailey Meehan all performed in this number, and displayed their dancing skills one final time on the Timber Creek stage.
