On Friday Nov. 30, once again AG Day was held at Timber Creek. This is a day that represents and honors all the men and women in our country who work in the agricultural profession. From first through sixth period students were able to visit the AG classroom with their class and join in on the festivities.

AG Day gives everyone else at school a little view of what the class is all about and also gives you a better perspective on domestic animals as a whole. “Safari Todd” Brever, a well- known speaker and animal handler, came to Timber Creek for his first time and gave students more information on a few different wild animals (alligators, scorpions, snakes). Brever gave students more insight on what we might see as pests in our society, made students more familiar with these animals and even let them handle the animals. Freshman Sam Monarch said, “It was awesome in every way and was a great first time experience.”

This year the AG department did AG Day bigger than ever before. They had more animals than ever before, from their brand new alpacas to returning favorites like the horses that everyone loves to ride. With the addition of more animals and the guest appearances by UF and Department of AG representatives, this AG Day seemed to triumph over its predecessors. AG teacher Zuleika Hubble said, “Every year we try and make AG Day bigger and better this year was no exception.”

With donations from Starbucks and Einstein Bagels, AG Day was able to do a little something extra for the teachers that let their students come down and join in on the excitement. With AG day going bigger and better this year, it makes students wonder what will happen next year. With it being her last AG day Senior Brittany Dickerson said, “It was a good last AG Day and as usual an all-around great time.”

An alumni of UCF, I began teaching English at Timber Creek High School in 2004. I have taught all grade levels, but spent the most time teaching English 3 honors before becoming a writing teacher. I now teach Creative Writing regular and advanced, Journalism, and Newspaper. I am also the adviser for FLOW: the TCHS Literary and Art Magazine, the Key Club, Quill and Scroll, the Life Skills Club, and our schools Poetry Slam team. I am married and gave birth to our first child, James, in May of 2013. In my free time (hah!) I think about school and spend time with my family.
