What does it mean to be well rounded? People are always telling students to be involved in the community and do a wide range of things, because that’s what colleges are looking for. Is it true that being involved in many activities, playing a sport, learning a different language all can give you a step up over others?
If you look up the term “well-rounded” on Dictionary.com, the definition that comes up is “having desirably varied abilities or attainments.” Being involved gives you those desired abilities, which include leadership and compatibility with others. Students who can work well with others and communicate to get something done is what may are looking for, and can be attained from being involved.
“I think that it’s important that students get involved with the community because it gives them a sense of the world around them,” states Rose Sanchez, a freshman here at Timber Creek. Students need to know about the people around them and know how to deal with the problems. Most students focus on only one part of their lives and forget about the rest.
In reality, we all need to focus on having different abilities, not only for college, but for the future ahead. Employers look for versatility between jobs, and how you deal with other people around you. All in all, it’s important to have a wide range of abilities .
