The Timber Creek music program is currently preparing for this years’ MPA (music performance assessment). This event is will take place Thursday, February 28th and Friday, March 1st at Cypress Creek High School. Bands from all over the county go to play a set of prepared pieces for a panel of judges. These judges then score the pieces and rate each band on a scale ranging from poor to superior.
The District MPA is open to all and parents and friends may attend to watch their loved ones perform their prepared pieces. There is also a sight-reading portion of the judging, which is not available to the public. Timber Creek’s Wind Ensemble performs Thursday, February 28th while the Freshman and Symphonic bands will be playing at Cypress Creek on Friday, the 1st of March.
Students have put in great amounts of effort to put on the best performance they can for this upcoming event. Sophomore Kurt Ramsey says, “We’ve put a great deal of work and energy into making the pieces for MPA something that we’re proud of. I think the music has turned out great and it’s a pleasure to be able to play something that people will enjoy.”
The concert ensembles here at Timber Creek have been practicing for this upcoming event for several weeks in order to receive the highest score that they can. Practice includes in-class rehearsal as well as after school sectionals and daily playing tests to ensure that students are learning the material outside of class. A lot of time and effort goes into perfecting these pieces and their progress was recently showcased at the Pre-MPA concert hosted at TC in the performing arts center February 13th with guest conductor Ron Ellis, who is a Director of Bands at the University of Texas at San Antonio.
Be sure to wish any members of the band program goodluck this upcoming week on their performances taking place Thursday and Friday.
