In any school community, spirit is an important aspect. Spirit shows traditions and pride for the school. It is seen in elementary schools up to colleges. School spirit can be anything from pep rallies, sports events, dress up days, to simply being proud about what school you attend. But the question is, does Timber Creek have enough school spirit, not only compared to other schools but on its own?
When asked if TC has enough spirit, Senior Nichole Madonia replied, “We don’t have school spirit at all, I think there should be more involvement and more ways to be involved.” It is obvious that throughout the years Timber Creek has lost its pep, many students are craving to have more enthusiasm when it comes to special occasions such as homecoming and prom week. “Maybe if each program supported each other we would have more school spirit but I think we only have spirit on spirit days and for purple out but other than that we don’t have enough school spirit,” said Sophomore Caitlyn Seavers.
It is clear that students want to feel a sense of pride about their school but maybe more can be done for that to happen. Although spirit week is a big part of the Timber Creek High School experience, less and less people are participating. Taking inspiration from other schools and finding ways to get the community involved in school activities is a good way to form pride and show passion. Some ways that could help improve our exuberance are by having more events that include the faculty as well as the students, joining clubs, having a theme throughout the year, more out of school and in school events, more assemblies, wearing school colors, having dress up days that are creative and enjoyable, encouraging showing up to sporting events, and including everyone.
The following site proposes several ways for students to show pride for their school:
In the end, students just want their high school experience to be one to remember. We are already proud to be Timber Creek Wolves but there are more things that can be done to show it. Coming together as a school and community is the first step to having school spirit.
