About 2 years ago timber creek got a new ceramics teacher, one Elisha Vincent. Ms. Vincent in fact atteneded Timber Creek as a teennager. After her graduation she went on to college and received a degree in interior design. When talking to reporters about why she became a teacher she stated, “I wanted the position for ceramics because it was my favorite art class out of all the ones I took in college! I love working with a wet medium, and sculpting with my hands. I LOVE clay. I love working with clay, and being covered in it all day long, so even though I love all of the other mediums, I really wanted this position more than any other art class.”

Through the course of the year Ms.Vincent, as part of curriculum, assigns her students projects. “If I am not excited about the project then it is really hard for me to inspire others,”  she said. Throughout the year she assigns about six projects to all of her Ceramics 1 classes. “The project also needs to align with the standards that are required for the class by the state, so when I create a project, it is a mixture of researching the standards for the class, and thinking of something that would be fun to create.” She is doing a great job at this and her students’ art and new found art knowledge from her lessons reflects this.

When asked about her feelings about her first two years of teaching Ms.Viccent said, “I am very proud of myself! I know that I still have a lot to learn, but overall, I really have learned a lot in the field of education. Teaching gives me such deep joy. I love working with students and inspiring them with something that I love to do everyday. I love seeing students enjoy clay and 3D art as much as I do!” She also continued her statement by saying, “Since this is only my second year teaching, this year I was able to make a lot of improvements with the classroom as far as organization, and having a lot of the equipment repaired, so things are running much more smoothly than last year.” This gives hope for more improvements as Ms.Vincent grows as a teacher and becomes an expert. Vincent is psyched to stay around and watch the art department grow. “I am excited about having Ceramics 2 next year, along with Ceramics 1, AP 3-D, and my 3D art classes! I would love to see my classes continue doing installations around campus, and becoming a competitive arts school.”
