Every year, from September 15th to October 15th, Hispanic Heritage Month is celebrated. A month of recognition, celebration, and teaching of the multitude of Spanish heritages around the world. In Timber Creek, the Hispanic Club, Latinos in Action, AP Spanish classes, SNHS, and Spanish classes in general, have educated the student body of different heritages.

To symbolize why the clubs were out in the courtyard dancing, they made a banner to represent Hispanic Heritage Month

The members of Hispanic Club created tri-fold projects to inform other students of the different countries of Central America, South America, and the Caribbean. They also choreographed dances for different cultures that they performed in the courtyard during both A and B lunch throughout the duration of the month. In Spanish classes, kids learned since the beginning of the year about different heritages, and the differentiating factors between Hispanic cultures and countries. Students were shown videos, music, and different pieces of literature, and they analyzed the different cultures of different countries. The students in AP Spanish Language had also painted what they felt was symbolic of their own heritage on small canvases.

After performing in the courtyard, the dancers gathered around the displays to pose for a picture, and gave us their input of the experience. Junior, Gabriela Barreras said, ” We practiced after school almost every day from the time school ended until 4:30 p.m.”

With the tragedy that had occurred in Puerto Rico, Latinos in Action collected school supplies to provide for the children who do not have access to them. There had also been a drive held for general supplies that filled two truck loads to send to Puerto Rico.
