Freshmen Zoey Dangeloz plays on her phone during class, “I tend to play lots of games which becomes very addicting and can side track me from what I need to focus on” Zoey states. Phone’s and other devices can negatively affect the students with their learning experiences.

Technology has been out for around 30+ years now and they really do make life easier. It lets you have access to more things and you can communicate a lot faster and talk to people all over the world with a click of a button. With cell phones to laptops the world is at our fingertips, but did we ever think that this might be a bad thing. Cell phones have made not only adults but teens disconnected with the world. Think about it, how many times you’ve been on your phone and you miss something important or you’re having a conversation and you know you aren’t really paying attention and then the person who’s talking gets annoyed because you have no idea what’s going on. Technology has consumed every person that uses it. The average amount of time spent on your phone a day is 5 hours straight.
Over half a million people have lost their lives due to texting while driving and one third of that are teens under the age of 20. When texting while driving the effects of it are almost if not equivalent to drinking while driving. Not only is you’re driving impaired but so is your focus, you’re focusing on that text message more than the truck pulling out right in front of you. “I believe everything happens for a reason and the reason for my car accident is to let me know that I need to slow down and pay more attention. I know that I need to change the way I have been living my life. My phone and talking to my friends put me in danger. I realize how easy it is for my life to be over because I wasn’t paying attention.” says Amanda Clarke. Though this statement wasn’t entirely true. Almost exactly a year later Amanda died in a car accident due to texting while driving. It may seem like a harmless act but you never know the consequences that are coming.
Three fourths of American schools provide devices from students. The only reason they are distributed to the students is for academic purposes and nothing more. Though they are provided with access to state approved websites there are still many ways students can access things not meant for a young person. For example YouTube on laptops is not blocked which opens many doors to young students. With using devices instead of pen and paper also comes with major problems including headaches from looking at the screen too long or the complications that come along with computers and electronics.
It has been proven many times now that the more time students spend on electronics the more they drift away from reality. Think about all those hours that seem to pass by so quickly because you’re watching that show or you’re busy online shopping. We constantly tell children to stop playing on their electronics and get outside and do more yet we’re providing the electronic.

Game on! Freshmen Zoey D’Angelo plays on her phone during class. “I tend to play lots of games which becomes very addicting and can side track me from what I need to focus on,” D’ Angelo states. Phones and other devices can negatively affect the students with their learning experiences.
