Whether you’re experiencing a white Christmas (or a goopy brown one) there is something about that two week long break that tends to drive us into a sort of isolation.

Between staying home while your parents go to work, or being obligated to go to that annual Christmas party (you know, the ones where you don’t really know anyone but yet you’re greeted with, “Oh my god! I remember when you were this tall!”). The whole idea of a “break” tends to seem blurry.

But if you’re like me, you want things to be different this year. You’d want to post the kinds of pictures on Instagram that’d make your exes jealous. You want to be able to come back to school on Monday so exhausted that your history teacher doesn’t even have to question if you finished your portfolio (please, you were partying too hard to even look at it).

Oh wait– that is not really gonna happen, because here we are with no other plans than to re-watch American Horror Story on Netflix (for the FOURTH time). Your best friend is going to be out of town, so you’re down to three potential people to hang out with. And hey, maybe that creepy guy that flirts with you in Spanish class could be an option.

My point is to broaden your horizons. Try talking to the quiet people in your classes; you’d be surprised of how much personality is trapped inside those bodies. It also wouldn’t hurt to wave hello to your crush once in a while (trust the whole “ten seconds of courage” thing; it works wonders). I mean, how else do you expect to socialize during Winter Break?

Use the few days you have left to take initiative. It’ll so be worth the re-tweets.
