IMG_0450From the animals, to the dynamic duos, to the purple filled gymnasium and school spirit, this year’s spirit week was just the kick-off for the homecoming dance on Saturday Oct.11 at the House of Blues in Downtown Disney.

A walk through the Alice and Wonderland arches led attendees to the green screen where a photographer was waiting to capture the perfect moment, and the infamous Confetti and balloon drop took place halfway through the night after the king and queen took the stage for their dance.

Planning an event to this scale is not as easy as it seems. “We will start planning for next year about now. Active planning kicks in Mid-Summer. When we decided the theme it was just trying to find decorations to match so it was a production that we were proud of and after that I left it up to the decoration committee and they did a good job; I could not be more impressed. On my end I had to make contract negations to make sure the price was as low as possible. “ said SGA sponsor Justin Martineau.

Tickets for this year’s highly anticipated event sold out fast, something that has not happened in years. “It was unfair to the people that wanted to go; I wish I went to homecoming because it would of been a great time with my friends,” said junior Allie Ivey.

But with all good things comes a few errors. A big issue for the 2014 homecoming dance was the new addition, light-up dance floor being too crowded. “If I could change anything I would’ve made the venue a bit bigger so it wasn’t as crowded” said Student Body President Austin Williams.

With this issue reoccurring, students wonder if there will be a venue change for next year. “The House of Blue is so accommodating in terms of meeting the needs for our dance. They do a great job helping us turn our visions into a reality. They are great partners in that respect. Everyone is just happy all around,” said Martineau.

A common question that travels through the student body is wondering what the ticket sales are used for, “Homecoming a way to unite the student body but it’s also a school wide event that we put on for the school as a fundraiser, just like all other schools SGAs do it. Our Money goes to banners and the sound cart we give to clubs free of charge. We buy things for the school from our funds for the school to use. It’s a way to replenish from what is taken out from homecoming, and from the year.” Said Martineau.
