As many are aware of, this school year has been unprecedented and like no other before. Things have had to change drastically, students have not been able to play sports the same way, and teammates have not been able to bond with each other as normal. The season for our Timber Creek dancing wolves has been especially difficult and unique. While the dancers are accustomed to creating and sharing choreography together on a daily basis, they have been confined to learning and creating pieces over a screen. They have put together all of their pieces through minimal in person rehearsals in order to produce a show for their families to watch straight from home!

While the dancers remained online for majority of their learning and choreographic experience, they were able to come together for few rehearsal during the week while following precautionary and safety guidelines. During these rehearsals, they remained masked up and continued to perfect their routines. They learned their pep rally, team piece, and director’s piece all through a camera and began cleaning these routines in person. These rehearsals have continued throughout the year and are leading up to the dancers’ first major performance; their annual Spring Showcase.

With quarantine and social distancing playing such a major role on the school year and having such a big impact on the dance season, it was only right for the dance team to use that big change as a theme for their show. Each of the dances have a little significance and meaning within them that reflect how the dancers have had to adjust to their current atmosphere and keep trying even harder. Senior Ashley Walesh, who is co-captain of the Elite Team, explains how the new normal has brought her team closer. “Since we are not able to be around each other as often as usual, we really cherish the time and rehearsals that we do have together. We work extra hard now because we want to make up the time that we have lost.”

All of this practice and rehearsal time has lead up to the big show. The actual Spring Showcase will take place in May. However, in order to take the place of their February Showcase, the dance teams and technique classes will be performing in pre-recorded videos to provide a preview for their families and desired audiences. This pre-recorded performance will be aired on March 26th at seven o’clock. Tickets will be going on sale beginning March 8th, and everything the dancers have been tirelessly working on will be available for all to see!
