Mental health is a serious issue that affects the lives of people every single day. This is an issue that can mostly affect teenagers. The suicide rates for teenagers have increased in the past decade. Here at Timber Creek High School, mental health is prioritized. Timber Creek is currently running a mental health course that takes time to help students learn the importance and many aspects of mental health. The course helps introduce signs and procedures when struggling with mental health. Timber Creek also takes time to put signs around the school presenting the topic of suicide prevention, including vital advice on how to prevent suicide and the hotlines that can be called when someone is having urgent suicidal thoughts. Fellow students share their thoughts on Timber Creeks’ take on Mental Health and the overall impact that is received.

Junior Jialing Gu shares initial thoughts on how mental health is handled at Timber Creek. “I admire how we are learning more about mental health and shows how the school is recognizing mental health and trying to reach students who are struggling and help them in a way. It’s also great that students can learn about mental health, so they can help others,” Gu said. This gives a true perspective on how others view Timber Creek’s approach on mental health. With these courses, students can learn vital information on how they can help themselves or others. It’s also important that students view their mental health as valued and seen. It’s important they know they’re not alone when struggling with their mental health.

Junior Solei Jimenez explains the overall impact of representation of mental health at Timber Creek.“Timber Creek’s program has such an impact when providing a guideline with such valuable information and resources on mental health which can help those who are struggling and potentially save lives,” said Jimenez.  With Jimenez’s statement, this gives insight into how Timber creek’s representation is truly helping students. All around, as recognition and awareness is spread, students are receiving guidelines that can save the lives of many.

Representation of mental health at Timber Creek can be seen as an encouragement and pathway for students to truly get the help they need when struggling with their mental health. The hope is Timber Creek continues to spread awareness and continue to reach the many students of our school.
