The Fall Classic, made history this year. The Los Angeles Dodgers versed the Houston Astros. The Dodgers, who are from the National league, beat the Chicago Cubs in 5 games to get to the World Series. The Astros, who are from the American league, beat the New York Yankees in 7 games to get to the World Series. The Dodgers record during the regular was 104-58, while the Astros record was 101-61. Since, the Dodgers won more games they had home field advantage.
The Houston Astros needed to have key players, such as, George Springer, Justin Verlander, and Lance McCullers Jr. Springer is a right fielder and going into the postseason he had 34 home runs and scored 112 runs. During the World Series he had three doubles, five home runs, and finished with a total of 29 bases during the series. Justin Verlander is a pitcher and was 4-0 going into the World Series with a 1.64 ERA. During the World Series he started in two games and had a 3.75 ERA. McCullers is a starting and relief pitcher, he started in 22 games in the regular season and came in as a relief pitcher in game 3 of the ALDS. McCullers started in 2 games of the World series and had a 3.52 ERA.
The LA Dodgers also needed to have had key players, such as, Corey Seager, Clayton Kershaw, and Yasiel Puig. Corey Seager is a shortstop for the Dodgers and was out during the NLCS because of a lower back injury. During the series he had one home run and six hits. Clayton Kershaw one of the best pitchers in the MLB today. His regular season stats Kershaw went 18-4 with a 2.31 ERA. During the Series he started in 2 games and had a 4.02 ERA. Puig is a right fielder for the Dodgers and had a .263 batting average during the regular season. His stats during the Series Puig had two home runs, four RBIs, and had four hits.
Game one went to the Dodgers, the final was 1-3. The first pitch to a Dodgers player was a homerun by, Chris Taylor. In the fourth inning Alex Bregman tied the game with his own home run. In the 6th inning Justin Turner hit a two run home run which gave the Dodgers the game. In game two, the Astros won 7-6 in a 11 inning game. This was the first Astros win ever in the World Series. In the 6th inning the Dodgers hit a home run to take the lead 3-1, in the top of the 9th the Astros hit a home run to take the game to extras. In the 10th inning the Astros hit another home run which gave them the game. In game 3, the Astros won 3-5 to take a 2-1 series lead. The Astros scored first in the game, they put up 4 runs in the second inning and put up 2 runs after that. Game four, the Dodgers won 6-2 to tie the series. Game 5 the Astros won 12-13 in 10 innings to take a 3-2 series lead. The game lasted 5 hours and 27 minutes and the Astros had 5 home runs in that one game! In game six, it was do or die for the Dodgers, they won the game 3-1 to tie the series and force a game 7. Game 7 was it, whoever won this game took home the trophy. The Astros took home the trophy winning the series 3-2. The ending score of the game was 5-1. This World Series made history, both teams combined for 22 home runs which is the most in world series history.
Jaddryan Mendez, grade 11, is a Dodgers fan, was not surprised that the Dodgers lost. “I watched game seven and after the error in the 1st inning, I knew that they were going to lose. They just didn’t seem like the team they are.” Yadiel Diaz, grade 9, who was a neutral fan in the series. “Even though I didn’t really care, I’m glad the Astros won, since I’ve seen them lose in past years, I’m glad they finally got to the World Series and won.”
