Timber Creek High’s clubs prepare for the homecoming parade.

Every year, Timber Creek High School throws their homecoming parade on the streets of Avalon Park. Sports teams, the student government, and a vast majority of clubs make their debut. Concurrent with that year’s theme, each “float” will be decorated according to their concept of choice.

One of the biggest clubs at Timber Creek, Key Club, chose Rio Brazil as their theme. For the two weeks prior to the homecoming parade deadline, Key Club hosted a handful of homecoming decoration activities for volunteer hours for Key Club members. Some of the decorations included creating a large Key Club emblem, painting letters the color of the Brazilian flag, as well as drawing several components of the iconic Rio movie.

As for Ebony’s Step Club, “Steppus,” their theme of choice was Mardi Gras. According to Sofia J. Joseph, president of Ebony Club, members will be decked out in purple, gold and green while passing out beaded necklaces and candy. Vice President of Ebony Club, TeAnna Bryant, said, “Our banner will include our club name along with a “throwing shade” comment towards Colonial High (our football game rival).”

Dia Patel, co-president of Pre-Med Club, explained that their shared theme with Science National Honors Society and National Honors Society is the London Rooftop Party. Their decorations include London’s iconic landmark, Big Ben. To spice it up, the officers decided to let their members wear costumes. Patel mentioned, “We want to make sure that we celebrate the vibrant culture of London so we have asked all our officers and members to dress as British singers such as the Spice Girl, One Direction, and the Beatles!”

Outside of homecoming week, each club participates in a variety of other events. Some of these include participating in debates, district and national battles. For TeAnna Bryant, she is “definitely most excited for culture day!” For many clubs including Hispanic Club, Latinos in Action, Ebony Steppus, and Asian Student Association, they have a plethora of activities all school year. Make sure to check out Timber Creek’s clubs and join!

On the last day before the parade, Key Club organized a meet in the College and Career Center for any last minute touch ups on their decorations as well as packing candy bags. “We’ll be dressed in Brazil’s colors. The letters for Key Club will be decorated with feathers, confetti, beads, and the Rio bird Blu,” claimed Ferriera. Photo donated
