Red Ribbon Week is an alcohol, tobacco, and other drug and violence prevention awareness campaign that usually takes place in October in the United States. It is the oldest and largest drug prevention awareness campaign in our country. It is full of fun events like wearing red to support being drug and alcohol free. You can also wear a red ribbon to show your support. Wearing the red ribbon will show drunk driving prevention, drug prevention, blood disorders, and the fight against AIDS.
This year at Timber Creek High School we celebrated red ribbon week by dressing up in fun costumes and colors to show our support for Red Ribbon Week. Our school thinks it is very important to show that our students our drug free. To do this the wolves create fun activities for the students to join in to. For this year, every day the students were encouraged to wear fun clothing every day of Red Ribbon Week.
For Monday we wore red to show that our school is drug and alcohol free. Tuesday was twin day, where you join up with a fellow students and wear matching clothing. Wednesday we showed our favorite colleges and colleges we want to attend by wearing t-shirts and jersey’s representing our favorite colleges. Thursday was lei off of drugs day so we wore fun bright clothing and lei’s. On the last day of the week the students wore purple which was to show school spirit.
Students had a great time wearing fun clothing to school; it made them excited to support Red Ribbon Week. Freshman Jenna Henderson said, “My favorite day was twin day. I dressed up with my boyfriend and we looked so good!” Freshman Mercedes Lane said, “It was a great way to show our school support against drugs and alcohol.” Sophomore Julia Black said, “My favorite day was purple day. I love showing my school spirit.” Freshman Marianna Ingraham said, “Red Ribbon Week is so much fun! I got to match outfits with my friend!”
