The Timber Creek Regiment has a new show this year titled “Lighten Up”. Students can listen to the new songs Regiment has to offer, with a 60s hippie theme.

“Lighten Up” consists of three movements (portions of the show) with five songs. Starting the opener (show introduction) is “White Rabbit” by Jefferson Airplane, correlating with this year’s “Alice in Wonderland” homecoming theme. The show also incorporates “Uptight” by Stevie Wonder in the opener. The show then transitions into the ballad (middle portion of the show) where “The Long and Winding Road” by The Beatles will be performed. The Closer (finale) is the last segment, containing “Me and Bobby Magee” and “A piece of my Heart” by Janis Joplin.

Unlike last year’s performance of “On the Shoulders of Giants” which covered music through history, this year’s show remains in one era. According to sophomore Christian Garay, a mellophone player in the band, “…from the beginning of the show we are all very strict…and then towards the end of the show we start to lighten up hence the name of the show…”

Another new component of the show is that instrument players will not wear their traditional band uniforms. Instead black slacks, white dress shirts, and black ties will be this year’s attire. The wardrobe change is exclusive to the show’s theme. For football games they still wear their usual uniforms; for contests and other performances, such as this year’s state championships, the new uniforms will be worn.
Students in Regiment practice for hours throughout the week preparing for their performance. Senior Aylin Castaneda, a color guard member, stated “…it’s [the show] progressed pretty fast; we are going to do the closer drill next week,” signaling the performance’s planning would soon be finalized.

The Regiment performs every Friday during half time bringing “Lighten Up” to the student body. IMG_0908
