Senior Olivia Kleinberg painted her parking spot with the character Ponyo from Ponyo on the Cliff.

School Tradition

There’s certainly nothing more interesting than the back-to-school rite of passage for many high school students than being lastly allocated your own place in the holy senior parking lot. While the comfort is definitely satisfying on its own, some of these seniors take the privilege to the next level by customizing their spot personally with creatively painted designs and messages.

Some schools — like Timber Creek High School — even assigned “parking spot painting days” are planned and coordinated at the beginning of each high school year. Relatives and friends gather during these activities to assist the senior paint his or her place.

There is deeper meaning for Olivia Kleinberg parking spot than others: “Ponyo on the Cliff is one of my favorite movies growing up. Every time I watch the movie it reminds me of my childhood and the innocent days where I didn’t have a care in the world. I thought I should have it on there so that I would remember that feeling.”

Just like Kleinberg, Senior Reilly Tran has a deeper meaning to the Catbug painting on her spot, stating “Every day in 8/9th grade after school I would watch the show “Bravest Warriors”. Catbug was almost my favorite and I felt like his careless nature was something that I could learn from”
