New Updated SGA Application

Student Government Association has updated their application and now requires a “boot camp” for students to join. The boot camp is said to occur around 2:30 pm in the gymnasium on March 6th. There are new contracts to read over and sign, especially if you are applying for a legislative position. You must also write down your current class schedule, your current grade in the class and have your teacher sign it and have them recommend on why or why not you should be in SGA. Listed below are the new and/or updated sections of the application, if you have any questions, see Ms. Feeney or Ms. Francis in room 553.

Social Network Policy Contract

(This section is required for all students running for student body position!) In the social network policy contract, while members of SGA are not restricted from using social media, they are advised to be aware and careful of what they put onto the web. Don’t post something you wouldn’t want your parents to see. Members are expected to comply with federal government, state of Florida, and all OCPS rules and regulations. You should avoid derogatory language, demeaning statements, and incriminating photos/statements  depicting any suspicious or illegal activity on any platform of social media.

Alcohol/Drug Abuse Policy Contract

There is a new drug/alcohol contract, if you are caught under the influence, possession, or post about the two on social media, your first offense is suspension from any SGA activities for the rest of the year and your second offense is expulsion from the program. While the use of drugs is illegal, students should know by now that if you are caught with drugs or are under the influence you will face consequences.

Junior, Michael Kokowicz is applying for SGA with the new application. He explains that, “Beforehand we didn’t pick our committees, they would be assigned after we were enrolled in the program. The drug and alcohol form is brand new to me, we didn’t really have an official document for this type of thing. The final new part of the process is the boot camp, all the things we would do inside the classroom during the school day is happening at this event. We would usually do the ice breakers in class as a class not as a whole organization in the gym.”
