Freshman Jose Castro plays the ukulele and has been playing for 3 years. He decided to start playing the ukulele when he received it as a present from his parents. As soon as he started playing he fell in love with the instrument and now it is a huge part of his life. “It is a difficult instrument to learn how to play,” said Castro. “There are good days and bad days playing this instrument. Sometimes I’m really slow and other days I’m doing better than ever. It takes patience and hard work”.

Castro dedicates hours each day of the week on improving his skills and trying to make himself better. He brings the ukulele to school everyday and plays in his free time. Castro also mentioned that he learns something new about it everyday. He discovers new tricks and new ways to play. He taught himself how to play on his own which makes it an even better accomplishment.

Castro hopes to keep playing the ukulele throughout his high school career. “Playing instruments is something I’ve always loved and I’m happy that I got the opportunity to learn how the play the ukulele,” said Castro.
