The TCHS library hosted a book signing with Suzanne Young, the author of The Program series, on March 28th. About 200 students attended, excited to meet this talented author. Suzanne Young was at TCHS from 8:00-11:00 a.m., giving two presentations and signing books after each presentation. Ms. Franklin, TCHS’s Media Library Specialist, said, “Suzanne Young was very personable and funny.” Young talked about her journey towards becoming an author: how she got started writing books, how she got them published, and how she writes her stories.
“After all, suicide is contagious.” This describes Suzanne Young’s The Program, a dystopian book. In this story, suicide is an epidemic. Telling the tale of Sloane, a girl who tries to conceal her struggles with depression, a battle of emotion, love, and society is created. If Sloane shows any signs of suicide, she will be thrown into The Program, a place where infected individuals are sent to wipe their memory clean and get rid of the disease. Both Sloane and a boy James combat loss and the Program, while growing in their love.
Angsty, suspenseful, and altogether thought- provoking, “The Program” will cause the reader to better understand unexplainable emotions. Many TCHS students brought their own copy of The Program for Young to sign, and others purchased it at this book signing, ready to be submerged into the world of Sloane. Through this event, Suzanne Young inspired and motivated students not only to immerse themselves in literature but also to chase their aspirations.
