In Orlando, there are different activities to partake in, whether it be going to the movies, going to eat at a restaurant, or even going to an amusement park. Another alternative that could be added to the list of activities is going to a museum. Compared to going to an amusement park, a museum could be a much cheaper option in which fun could still be had. There are also different types of museums that could interest different interests for people.  AP Art History and AP Language Composition teacher, Michael Dutcher, appreciates the fact that there are a lot of independent museums. “There are a lot of museums that are pretty close and cost almost nothing at times, and there are a lot of different types of art that can be experienced at the different museums,” said Dutcher.

One example is the City Arts Factory located in downtown Orlando. The museum is open from 11am to 6pm, with free admission Tuesday through Saturday. It is currently downtown’s largest collective of art galleries that contains art from a local scale to an international scale in works of art. It also includes a cafe, meeting, and classroom space to diversify the use of the building to expand the target groups of people. The pieces included in the museum are also changed monthly so that there can be a frequent new experience for the visitors at any time, hopefully causing them to want to come back to the museum at a later time. There is also the option to donate to the museum to contribute to its growth rather than being too expensive.

The Mennello Museum of American Art is closed on Mondays, open Tuesday to Saturday 10:30 am to 4:30 pm, and Sunday from 12 to 4:30 pm. The admission for students with a valid ID is $1, and there is also free parking. Within the museum itself, are different pieces from different cultures, and there is also a whole sculpture garden. The exhibitions are changed frequently throughout the year as well, but online a viewer has the opportunity to look at what the past exhibitions were and from what time of the month they were exhibited. The pieces vary from portraits to abstract pieces from a multitude of time periods. They also have educational opportunities and events for families to partake, and other types of programs. To be able to keep up with the different events that could take place at the museum there is an event calendar on their website; https://www.mennellomuseum.org/exhibitions/ .

There is also the Orange County Regional History Center, that is open 10am to 5pm Monday through Saturday, and noon to 5pm on Sunday. The admission for a student with a valid ID is $7. At this museum, you can learn the history of different elements of Orlando, and how things were before it was fully developed. There are different exhibits, and different events that take place depending on what holidays there are during that specific month. There are also select days in which there are free admissions depending on what event is taking place on that day, such as Heritage Day which had taken place on January 16. Other events to take place in the future can be viewed on their website; http://www.thehistorycenter.org/
