The Violin Society of America (VSA) has named Timber Creek freshman Gabriella Vega their April Student of the Month. Vega started playing violin in sixth grade and continued on her musical education through Timber Creek’s orchestra program, despite being hearing impaired.
“The arts have been a great way for [Gabriella] to find a challenge in her life and be able to surpass that challenge.  Gabriella proves that it is not impossible to succeed in music without the ability to hear,” said orchestra director Staci Conkling.
Vega participates competitively while remaining a high-achieving student with a 4.14 GPA. She attributes a lot of her success to her hard work through the orchestra program.
The Florida chapter of the VSA gives out this award to help promote involvement in the arts for disabled students.
