Prom 2018: Midnight in Monte Carlo

The greatest time of the school year for upperclassmen is here. No, not the immense amount of studying and terrible tests that are pressed upon our brains, but PROM season is upon us. So put down the pen and pad and go shopping for a spicy outfit to impress your date/friends *wink* *wink*

Apopka’s Junior Class Council has taken the responsibility to put together a prom that will allow us to leave a ton of memories on the dance floor. The date for the 2017-2018 school year prom will be on May 5th, a.k.a. Cinco de Mayo! The location will be at the Hilton of Orlando Resort which is placed on the famous International Drive. This AAA 4-Diamond Award winning hotel has a ballroom that is humongous as the square footage amounts to about 49,128 square feet.

The previous year’s theme for prom was Under the Northern Lights, which was decorated with sparkly lights and sparklers that decorated the ceilings and tables. The theme for this prom, Midnight in Monte Carlo, is based upon the city of Monte Carlo which is filled with casinos, luxurious cars, and fancy restaurants. According to Mr. Anchel, who is the sponsor of JCC, this theme will be one of his favorites among many others that he has sponsored over the past (10+) years.

Putting together prom is the toughest and most strategic part of the process of finalizing everything. The pressure is on for the members of JCC to please the 1000+ upperclassmen that are planning to attend. Decorating this event will take at least 5 hours out of the members day. Last year, my JCC group took about five hours out of our Saturday morning to decorate tables, hang up lights, and set up the DJ Booth. JCC and Mr. Anchel put forth an enjoyable environment for students who have paid a pretty penny to attend this classic high school event.

The 5 Don’ts to Remember:

  • Don’t come to prom blitzed or high
  • Don’t tarnish the decorations that were worked on all day by students just like yourself
  • Don’t try to steal someone’s date during a dance
  • Don’t horde the snacks and food on the tables
  • Don’t leave your date alone; you brought them along for a reason

The 5 Do’s to Remember:

  • Dance your heart away as if the world was ending
  • Sing as loud and proud as you can; wake up the next morning with no voice
  • Move your hips like a professional salsa dancer; don’t look like a paralyzed snake
  • DRINK WATER, stay hydrated. Trust me, you will be dehydrated after 10 minutes of dancing
  • Dress in something that you won’t be mad when it gets dirty; its gets grimy on the dance floor

REMINDER:

Tickets go on sale on the 16th of April at the set price of $65. The second week is $75 and then the next week after that will be $85.
