Celebrate Literacy Week Activities:

  • Read My Shirt – wear shirts with messages/slogans/etc.
  • Read short passages on news each morning and classes guess which book they come from
  • Teachers favorites – book display in Media Center
  • Bookmark design contest
  • Mystery readers on the news channel at every hour – classes try to guess who the reader is (only voice, no video)
  • 100 Books We Love – Each class will get a poster to try and write 100 book titles they’ve read – goes with 100th day of school

Copy Assistance Needed:

Due to some concerns with the print shop, teachers are making copies at school.  We are looking for a few parents to help out with this. If you are interested, please sign up on the sign-up genius form link below.  We are looking for 2 parents to come each week for the next 8 weeks. You can pick the day and time that you are available.  Just be sure to notate it on the sign-up link.

Presidential Fitness Test– Volunteers Needed

The Presidential Fitness Test is coming soon! Testing will take place during your child’s regularly scheduled PE times during the week of January 23-January 27. Don’t forget to send your child to school wearing appropriate shoes for running during these days. We are in need of volunteers in PE for the Presidential Fitness Test. Volunteers are needed to help count/record sit-ups, time laps and sprints, and record pull-ups. This is a wonderful opportunity to come out and help your child’s class. Volunteering for these 45 minutes is a lot of fun and the children love to see us out there! Please use the link below to view your child’s schedule and sign up to help.

At Curriculum Night, Mrs. Harkness and I did a presentation on “Building a Fluent Reader.” I am attaching the PowerPoint in case you were unable to attend because it has some fun and easy ideas for how you can develop your child’s fluency at home.
