Challenge Spelling Words: Bossy R- or (F)
This week we will begin a new vocabulary building routine called “Juicy Word of the Week.” Every Monday, I will select a new “juicy word” for us to study. The students’ goal for the rest of the week is to see how many times they encounter this “juicy word.” All the students will have a chart in the “Homework” section of their KOALA Books where they can track each time they hear the word (in a conversation, during a TV show, etc.), see the word in their reading, or use the word in their own writing/speaking. This helps students “tune in” to interesting words around them and incorporate them in to their everyday vocabulary. Ask your child Monday night what this week’s word is!
This week I will introduce another one of the 7 Habits of Happy Kids: Habit #6: Synergize! This habit focuses on the idea of “together is better” and using each person’s talents to achieve a common goal. At this point in the school year, there is often an increase in brother/sister-type bickering in the classroom (after all, we have been in the same small room together for over 100 days). It can be hard to remember that our class family is most successful when we support one another and highlight the positive! Emphasizing this habit always gets us right back on track!
