Congratulations to last week’s Principal’s Award winner, Saif!

This week in math we are working on one and two-step word problems. We will be using the CUBES strategy to help us dissect the word problems and find important information. Here is a bookmark of the steps that you can print and use at home. CUBES Word Problems Strategy Bookmark

We had an amazing I Love a Book Day! The students’ characters masks were adorable and they felt so proud showing them off during the parade. We were also lucky enough to have several Mystery Readers stop by throughout the day to share stories, snacks, and crafts with us. A huge thank you to our room parent, Mrs. Ramirez, for organizing everything. She even did her activity a second time with another 2nd grade class, which was incredibly generous and thoughtful! We also have to give a special thanks to Mr. Ramirez, for snapping so many pictures of our class on this memorable day.

It is time for new AR goals! This week the students will take the STAR reading assessment again to get their new reading levels. Later in the week I will send home the results, along with their new AR goals for this grading period. Remember, you can log-on to Renaissance Home Connect to see how your child is performing in the AR program If your child did not meet his/her goal the first time around, it’s okay. The first 9 weeks of school is always the hardest because we are building routines and procedures. The Media Center was also closed quite a bit, so the students were not getting to check out books as regularly as they should. Luckily, we all get a fresh start and 9 more weeks to work towards achieving our new AR goals! 🙂

Teach-In 2014 is quickly approaching on Wednesday, November 18th.  This event is a great opportunity for students to see how many of the skills they are learning in school transfer to the “real world.” We would love to have as many parents as possible come in to share their interesting skills, jobs, talents, interests and hobbies. If you are interested, please let me know and I will send home a registration form. So far, we have two parents registered to come in and we would love to have more. I promise we  won’t bite! Thanks!
