Jose Mencos Captain of the JV Soccer team

On December 12 the Timber Creek Wolves Soccer team for boys played a crucial game against Colonial High School. The team has had a fairly good season so far with winning all their games and having only one loss prior to this game. As the team plays more games the stakes get higher and higher, the players are keeping their cool and are just having fun in the field which is how it should be, however winning is also important and that’s one of the main priorities for the squad right now. Colonial was a very tough matchup for Timber Creek since they defended the ball pretty well and knew how to move correctly on the field. Timber Creek played a good game as well they knew that colonial would be a tough match up and they relied mostly on counter strikes to do a quick attack on the opposing team. In the first couple of minutes into the game all the people in the stands knew it would be a good game to watch.

The Captain for the team Jose Mencos said that “ Yeah it’s been getting a bit harder this Sport has evolved and changed so much than when i started playing. It’s not as physical anymore but its a more faster than ever before, and it just makes everything so competitive which is great for the next generation of professional soccer.” Jose is right many professionals that cover soccer and work for companies such as ESPN have said that in many leagues the slowest team today is faster than the fastest team 10 years ago or even 5 years ago. Since this generation of soccer players are playing at such a rapid pace then it just makes it more hard and competitive for the opposing rivals which to a certain extent is a good thing. The team being able to win the amount of games they’ve won just shows how talented they are and what they are capable of. This certainly explains why Soccer has grown so much in popularity and why more and more people watch it after all it is one of the most entertaining sports right now.

Even though the team has been performing well like any team they have their flaws i talked to a freshman that is a starter for the squad, Patrick Sepulveda about what the team needs to work on and what they can do better in a game. “ I think we need to work on the passing not rushing the play, randomly kicking the ball up so we need to play more relaxed, we need to start switching the ball around until we get an opportunity for goal and we need to play 1 or 2 touches.” I think it’s great that a team admits its own flaws that’s certainly one of the keys to success any team should do this and know where they are right now and how they can get better shows a lot of professionalism by the players part. Hopefully the team can get better and wok on these flaws. Every team should take note and notice their flaws like the wolves did.

The game could have gone to both teams and at the second half a devastating blow to Colonial  with a final score of 2-0 favoring the wolves. Two Assists from Patrick Sepulveda, and Gabriel Mejicanos. 2 goals scored by Jose Mencos made the Wolves get an victory that will be remembered as probably one of the best games this season. I think we can expect a lot from the team because it’s really a special thing when majority of their games but they still try to find all their flaws so when they play their next game they are better than the last game. Coach Chehab deserves much credit by the amount of wins the team has been getting, he is a good strategist and always tries to find ways the team can get better. This will definitely be a hard team to stop.
