From October 9th to the 13th College Week was held here at Timber Creek. College Week is conducted in order to make students aware of some of the choices they have when it comes to deciding on a college and that there are many colleges that tailor to their passions. The week was filled with many fun activities and information.
College Week began strong as Ebony Club had displays of historically black colleges such as Howard University, which has an 95.3 black/African American population and Bethune-Cookman University which has an 80% black/ African American population. On Tuesday, Hispanic Honor Society had informational displays about Hispanic friendly colleges. Wednesday, October 11th was “I’m preparing for college day.” On this day Timber Creek students, along with other students in the nation, prepared themselves for college by taking the SAT or PSAT. On Thursday, Timber Creek hosted a College and Career Fair sponsored by the Timber Creek PTSA and the guidance department. The fair welcomed over 60 representatives from colleges, technical programs, and armed forces. The fair had an abundant amount of state colleges including The University of Florida and Nova Southeastern University. Although the fair included many local schools there were also many out-of-state such as The University of Alabama and Monroe College. The last day of College Week was “I’m going to college day” where students and teachers decked out in their college in order for their name to be entered in a raffle for a prize.
