The Entirety of Timber Creek’s Rehearsal Process for Winter Musical

By: Gabriel de Cardenas

Timber Creek High school’s winter musical for this year will be Footloose. A classic about a city boy, with family struggles, moving into a small town where dancing is outlawed. Finding this ridiculous, he and the help of new friends with supporting views, makes dancing legal while healing the small town from its tragic past. Months of hard work have been put in and they will be performing January 27 – 29, 2022.

One very important detail that really puts this show in a different place from other shows is this is the first normal musical since the outbreak of covid-19. Director of the show, Ryan Skiles, believes that the cast and crew are feeling more enthusiastic and relieved that the tough times are over and they can go back to normal in a more comfortable space. Since this is the second show of the season, they getting back into the swing of things, but Skiles emphasized the emotions and how they are still present.

“I think there is a sense of … we’re finally back. That show kind of felt like it was the back into our own space kind of thing,” said Skiles about the Footloose and the show before, Comedy of Errors.

The rehearsal process so far, described by Skiles and actor/theatre president Kaden Hawkins, has been very enjoyable. New faces have emerged and new leaders have filled the shows of previous ones. These new leaders have been working hard and have been giving the show organization and drive.

“Some dancers have surfaced, like Lily Morrow. She has come a long way with being a dance captain. Another is Abby Belachew, she has stepped up and has had good ideas with organizing the dance stuff,” said Skiles.

Actor Kaden Hawkins has felt this show has such drive compared to the rest. “Everyone is putting the work in and it is totally noticeable when watching songs backstage,” said Hawkins. He feels the cast has been working really hard to make the first musical back from COVID really special.
