We can all say that the past year has been a difficult one. Students had to adjust to a new way of learning, and teachers had to adapt to a whole new method of teaching all in the hope of keeping everyone safe from COVID-19. But with time and progress, we all find ourselves back into the classroom ready for a sense of normality. Despite all the chaos, we can always count on the arts to bring us back home, and this year is no exception. New and exciting projects are coming up for everyone, so let’s brace ourselves for what seems to be the most interesting year yet.

Our Theatre department, run by Mr. Skiles and Mr. Horn, is ready to get back on the stage with their new, exciting productions. On November 11th-13th, 15th 7:00-9:00 PM students will have the opportunity to dive back into the Shakespearean era with the comedic play that is “The Comedy of Errors,” a story about separated families and mistaken identities. On January 27th-28th at 7:00-9:00 PM as well as January 29th 2:00 PM and 7:00 PM students will also have the opportunity to listen to some iconic songs and view some thrilling dance moves as they experience the whole Footloose experience in real life. Before we continue, we should take into consideration that all these dates are subject to change since life is unexpected especially during these delicate times. But as of now, your spring musical Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street-a story about both the strength of love and the desire for revenge will hold auditions on December 13th; 2:30-6:00 PM. So come prepared to woo everyone away, and audition!

Furthermore, theatre club is happening everyone! Emma Johnson, Theatre Club’s Vice President explained with enthusiasm, “The first Tuesday of every month we have meetings, sometimes it won’t be the first Tuesday but mostly the first Tuesday of every month in the PAC, and there are also hangs every month and usually they are themed.” To clarify, students do not need to be in any theatre class to join the club, it is open to anyone interested. The meetings will be taking place almost every first Tuesday of every month; fun events and parties will also be continuing. Our Theatre department is also looking for people who are interested in tech and working the booth, more information will be posted on the theatre department’s social media. Stay tuned for more information with their Instagram account: @timbercreekthespians. Without a doubt, these events and meetings are a great place to meet new people and create long-lasting friendships as well as become more involved in your school, so check it out!

Get your microphones set and your voices prepped because the choir is back in session! The choir is meeting regularly: the 5 ensembles meeting every day in their respective class periods and officers meeting once a week, every week. It should be noted that the choir has kept on adjusting according to the restrictions COVID-19 imposed, which brought us with virtual concerts, however this year they are planning to return to the normal, in-person concerts. Megan Bailey, Timber Creek’s Chorus Historian for the last 2 years informed me about the upcoming events we should prepare for. “Our first concert will be our Fall Concert on Wednesday, October 13th at 7:00 pm. Additionally, we are very excited about the opportunity to sing with the Florida State University Singers on Thursday, October 14th at University High School.” As you can see, the choir is already practicing their music for the fall concert, so we should make sure that we are supporting them as best as we can! Besides, there will also be a Prism concert in December, a Pre-MPA concert in February, Masterworks in April, and the Spring Concert at the end of the school year. Once again these dates could always change so make sure you are staying informed with their Instagram account: @timbercreekchorus.

It is no surprise that getting back into the classroom has been a real challenge for most, but if this past year has taught us anything is that we have to make the best out of bad situations and enjoy the little things that we once used to overlook. We have to work hard and be nice so we can all build each other up and create the best learning environment. So let’s get ready for a great year wolverines-full of music, full of dance, full of the arts!
