Timber Creek’s up and coming business club

FBLA-PBL (Phi Beta Lambda) is the newest edition to Timber Creek’s wide range of clubs. FBLA is a student run organization that helps students transition into the business world. The school year of 2017-2018 the club was previously BPA (Business Professionals of America). The reason for the switch in organizations was due to changes in OCPS policies. In all, the transition has benefitted the club for the better because FBLA is actually better known and larger than BPA.

The last year of BPA the club was fairly small and the officers were mostly made of seniors. Heading into this year new officers were to be appointed. The now president, sophomore, Ana Vélez viewed BPA last year as, “A place where you can meet many people and make new friends, all in all it was a very sociable club.” There aren’t many major differences between the two clubs other than the popularity of FBLA.

In FBLA there are a multitude of community service opportunities throughout the year. This year there are a wider range of competition categories to sign up for. As well as, many more fundraisers set to take place. For the month of October the club will be having Boo Grams for sale starting the 17th up until the 31st when the freshly baked cookies will be delivered.

Through the club students can reach their required amount of hours and during senior year graduation they receive a cord. Being a part of the club looks good on not only resumes but as well as college essays and applications. Even one of the most popular universities in central Florida has FBLA of Phi Beta Lambda, which is the college branch for the organization.

Sign Up Now! Participating in the first committee project of the year on september 15th, 2018, sophomores Ana Vélez and Isabella Maddox are recruiting new members for FBLA. The recruitment process was fairly easy as they were working the B lunch shift which consists of many juniors and seniors, as most they’re looking for ways to accumulate hours. Both girls worked on creating the trifold board full of informational details about the new club. “We actually got a lot of people to sign up!” Maddox exclaimed. About 30 to 40 people applied during Blunch alone! Photo by Danielle Knight.
