PAR! Senior Alexis Mendez tells me about her TCHS golf experience in all her 4 years of attending this school. Alexis enjoyed this season more than the rest and is upset that it has come to an end. “Work hard, dream big, and be humble” was the response Mendez gave when asked if she had any advice for future athletes.

The Timber Creek girls’ golf team had a pretty decent turnout this year. TC’s girls’ team includes some of the best players and seniors Timber Creek has ever had. This season has included a bunch of ups and downs, but the team remained strong, despite some of their struggles.

Coach Q (the ladies golf coach) was interviewed and he had a lot to say about the overall season. First off, he was very thankful for all the new players that came out and wanted to try the sport and have a new experience, it meant a lot to him. TC’s 2016 team has a record of 7-4 for this season. They beat Hagerty, went to districts and placed 3rd, which was enough to qualify to advance to Regionals. Unfortunately, they placed 5th in regionals and could not advance.

Coach Q has a lot of love and dedication towards his golf team and could not be more proud of the season they’ve all had and what they’ve accomplished. When asked what his favorite memories during the season were, he replied with, “Just all the new players coming out. We had 4 players that never played golf before but wanted to try it.” This seemed to bring a smile to Coach Q’s face.

I also interviewed one of the top seniors Alexis Mendez. Mendez has been playing for the Timber Creek golf team for 4 years on varsity. Her best round was 49 in her match against Colonial. Her favorite matches include TC’s wins against Boone and Hagerty, she got the “dub” those evenings and could not be more proud about it. Some of Mendez’s top favorite moments during this season include when the whole team went to Chick-fil-A and had a team bonding session. “This meant a lot to me,” Mendez said, as she smiled. Another one of her favorite moments were when she received 2 Sportsmanship Awards from her meets against Winter Park & Colonial.  Mendez said this year would have to be her favorite because it was her last year playing, and most memorable.
