The Programming Team competed in the 16th Annual Invitational Stetson University High School on Feb. 6.

Timber Creek teams won a sum total of $120,000 worth of scholarships, and over $1,000 dollars worth of prizes. They competed against 34 other teams and placed 3rd.

This was a three hour contest were students worked together to solve as many word problems as possible.   They were judged on completeness and they only get feedback of “correct” or “wrong.”

The students that attended were:

Matthew Winchester (Sr) – $24,000

Chandler Lattin (Jr) – $24,000 ( + $4,000 from last year)

Caden Kreppen (So) – $24,000

Clinton LaVardera (Sr) – $8,000

Jelani Hill (Sr) – $8,000 Austin King (Sr) – $8,000

Anuj  Yamdagni (So) – $8,000

Devin Winchester (So) – $8,000

Chris Nastovski (So) – $8,000

This scholarship is  for Stetson University and is over 4 years.   This is in addition to any scholarship they may receive from the school itself and/or third party scholarships.    Also, each year these students can earn a higher amount for placing higher.   Stetson takes their highest placement, and adds $4,000 for each additional year.   So Chandler and Caden will be able to earn $32,000 total when they graduate.

An alumni of UCF, I began teaching English at Timber Creek High School in 2004. I have taught all grade levels, but spent the most time teaching English 3 honors before becoming a writing teacher. I now teach Creative Writing regular and advanced, Journalism, and Newspaper. I am also the adviser for FLOW: the TCHS Literary and Art Magazine, the Key Club, Quill and Scroll, the Life Skills Club, and our schools Poetry Slam team. I am married and gave birth to our first child, James, in May of 2013. In my free time (hah!) I think about school and spend time with my family.
