Freshmen Lucas Schalk learns the history of Thanksgiving during class. "This turkey is making me super hungry," Schalk jokingly said.

Thanksgiving, the giving of thanks. The holiday to be thankful for. Thanksgiving is a day where  families come together and fill up their bellies with an abundance of delicious foods. It’s also a celebration of the first harvest, which took place on October 1621. While Thanksgiving may have already passed, it’s still great to look back on those who really enjoyed that day and what they did.

Freshmen Lukas Schalk had shared what he done with his family during Thanksgiving break. “My family and I decided to drive to Arkansas for Thanksgiving because some of my family members lived there,” Schalk said. He had plenty of adventurous fun during his stay with his family, including driving down a hill with his cousin on a golf cart.

People have many different Thanksgiving traditions. There is the wishbone tradition; the wishbone is found in the breast meat in the turkey’s chest. When the turkey is eaten they take the wishbone from inside when it is dry and brittle, then they have two people to take either sides of the bone and make a wish, then pull on it. Whoever has the larger bone gets their wish. Other people like to have vegetarian food where they don’t stuff the turkey, it is made out of tofu instead.

Even though people may celebrate Thanksgiving differently, it is still a Thanksgiving. Everyone has something to be thankful for in their lives and that’s what makes this day so special.
