As the holiday season approaches us, most people prepare by buying gifts for loved ones and family. The Asian Student Association is trying to change things up a bit by using the giving season to give to strangers. Partnered with United Against Poverty Orlando, ASA has provided a toy drive to provide christmas gifts for children in poverty.  This toy drive lasted through the month of November to Friday, December 1st.

Toy drives aren’t the only thing ASA does, however. ASA was created to promote “Asian culture to TCHS and the Orlando community,” says ASA President Yuki Lieu, and welcomes “all races and backgrounds to help spread awareness of different cultures and diversities.” ASA meets once every month to talk about a different asian country and culture. Music, games and snacks are used to educate students about the many different asiatic countries.

Although the toy drive has ended, ASA has provided opportunities to give before and doubtlessly provide other ways for students to serve the community through giving. Mr and Mrs Brosseau are the joint sponsors of ASA, with Yuki Lieu as President, Adrian Lee as Vice President, Derrick Var as Secretary, Trisha Ruiz as Treasurer, and Alex Lee.

Although not as academic and focused as some other clubs, ASA definitely provides a relaxed environment for students to learn about different cultures and make new friends. Senior Jessica Blanchard says she joined because the “new and interesting people [she gets] to meet.”
