Who can become an NHS officer?
Any current member who is in good standing with the chapter may submit an officer application.
What responsibilities do the officers have?
In almost all cases, the NHS officers collaborate to complete various tasks; however, below are a few examples of duties which a particular officer might be responsible for.
- President– Work closely with the adviser and serve as a proxy in certain situations; plan/attend service activities, lead meetings, facilitate member correspondence (in person, via email, website).
- Vice President – Plan/attend service activities; aid in ‘good standing’ member checks; attend meetings of the DPHS Inter-Club Council; assist adviser and president with duties.
- Secretary – Plan/attend service activities, organize/update chapter calendar; manage service hours; collect and preserve records of chapter activities for the year; assist other officers with duties.
- Treasurer – Plan/attend service activities; manage chapter finances; aid in managing service hours; assist other officers with duties.
How do I apply?
Potential officers are expected to fully complete all portions of the online application to be considered.
Officer candidates must also obtain two teacher recommendations, which are to be completed electronically. Candidates must confirm that the teacher is willing to submit a recommendation before listing that teacher on the application.
How does the selection process work?
First, each application is carefully reviewed by the adviser who makes preliminary eliminations. Next, the remaining applications are presented to the Faculty Council for input. Additional input may be sought from faculty members, administration, and/or previous NHS officers.
When is the application submission deadline?
Officer applications open in the spring.
