Remembering Gerald “Freado” Anderson

The final days of Edgewater High’s 2017-2018 winter break turned tragic with the news of a fallen Eagle; Gerald “Freado” Anderson.

Anderson’s death was caused by an alleged home invasion gone bad, where he and Luismil Hernandez, was shot by seventy-year-old homeowner, Juan Jose Caraballo. Anderson died on the scene.
Despite the negativity of the situation, former classmates and teammates reminisce on the “gentle giant” which once was Gerald “Freado” Anderson.

“My favorite memory of Freado was studying for SATs. He would always say “Bro, we’re going to pass this. We’re going to college,” Manson Clayton, former teammate, said. “That meant a lot to me, because there isn’t too many people from here with goals like that.”

Ayana Moorison also cosigned that statement.

“He would really brighten someone’s day,” she said.

The tragic event led many students and staff members to reflect upon themselves, for example, Abdul “Mango” Harmon (former teammate) said “Freado dying was actually a lesson. It’s going to wake everyone up. It’s sad that it took for this to happen though.”

Anderson will be missed by all Edgewater students, faculty, and staff. His academic and athletic legacy will never be forgotten.
