Digital Media Student Competes at World Championship

Earlier this month, Lake Nona High School Digital Media Academy senior, Rhyan Lugo, competed in Certiport’s Adobe Certified Associates World Championship Photoshop Competition held in Washington, D.C. To be eligible, Rhyan had to earn certification as an Adobe Certified Associate in Photoshop as well as design an original entry showcasing his Photoshop skills that was judged by professionals in the industry. Certiport received over 26,000 entries worldwide and Rhyan’s entry earned him a spot to compete at the World Championship and be one of three students selected to represent the United States.

The global competition identified and recognized the next generation of design professionals using Adobe Photoshop software. Top students from around the world represented their respective countries at the World Championship. Rhyan received and all-expense paid four day trip to Washington, D.C. to compete against 21 finalists from 14 countries.

Each student had eight hours to design an advertisement for the Global Fund for Children, a Washington, D.C. based nonprofit organization whose mission is to transform the lives of the world’s most vulnerable children. The students had certain criteria to follow, but most importantly, they had to demonstrate skill and creativity to earn points. Although Rhyan did not place at the competition, he represented not only Lake Nona High School, but the United States. Rhyan is currently enrolled in Digital Media 3 and hopes to pursue a degree in computer science.
