Girl Up is a branch of the United Nations foundation founded in late 2010, dedicated to helping girls all around the world, specifically where it’s the hardest to be a girl. The foundation helps donate to countries where girls aren’t getting the proper education when compared to men or boys, where there is a lack of the proper hygiene products, etc. There are hundreds of thousands of Girl Up clubs in the United States. The Timber Creek Girl Up club has definitely made its mark. Some things to look forward to when deciding to join are when they take part in local festivals (such as Spooktacular or Oktoberfest), organize walks, conduct food drives, and much more!

Organization is Key!

Aside from Girl Ups memorable dedication to wanting to help fellow females around the world, they are also very diligent in the cub meetings. They send out Remind text messages whenever there are meetings (so there’s no excuse to not show up!) and even put the meetings on Google Classroom for people who weren’t able to attend in person. They’ve posted sign up forms for all the local events and all are welcome to join. They especially make sure that our senior class members get the hours that they need for college by embedding a “15 point by the end of the year” rule! So what have they been working on so far this year?

Homecoming Parade Walk

So far this year in Girl Up, so much has been accomplished! One thing the club took part in was the Homecoming parade for 2017. Creative signs and banners were made by the club’s dedicated members. To prepare for the walk, the amazing club officers (just to name a few: Katharina Wolf, Jazelle Gomez) held countless meetings to discuss their homecoming float, the route they’d be taking, and other very important things. Many members were excited to represent Girl Up in the parade along with many other clubs. Freshmen and also first time member, Brian, stated “It’s really cool to know that you’re making a difference for other people.” Awesome feeling, isn’t it?

Spooktacular!

Girl Up is known for their appearances at the local event known as Spooktacular. This year was especially amazing because they were able to raise $336.50 for the girl up foundation! This was one of the best turnouts for the club. The president of the TC Girl Up Club, Katharina Wolfe along with the other officers made sure that the tent, the candy, etc. were all ready for the exciting event. Students from all grade levels participated in this event to help raise money for our girls! Miss Kee, the club sponsor, has also devoted valuable time and effort into things like Spooktacular and has offered a tremendous amount of support to Girl Up.

Bulletin Board Decorating

Even more recently, some of the Girl Up members decided to come together and create and redesign the Girl Up bulletin board at the school. Club officer, Valentina, helped organize and appoint jobs to each member that showed up. Everyone decided on a Christmas/Winter themed bulletin board, so everyone got to work on snow mound designs, snowmen, snowflakes, etc. Freshmen and also first time member, Camila, explained, “I look forward to the Girl Up meetings!” So do we!

Uniformed. As the cameramen lined everyone up, The Girl Up members took their places for Club Picture Day on November 3rd, 2017! The process went very smoothly and everyone looks content.
