A Time to Reflect: Challenge Day

Challenge Day was as eye-opening as ever. On February 6 students who were invited or signed up for Challenge Day all gathered in the gymnasium. The day started off with simple games and having fun but as we slowly progressed the tone got more serious. At first, people didn’t really care about the spirit of Challenge Day all they cared about was about how they got to miss class.

The day started with a game made so the participants would have to meet new people and have social interactions. In this game there were a bunch of chairs lined up in a circle, the objective was to run across the room and get to a chair as fast as possible. If you were the last one to a chair you would have an allotted time to come up with something that applies to everyone to start the next round, meanwhile for the people who made it to their chair had to discuss a certain topic, for example, what is your favorite cartoon of all time.

The next activity we did was a bit simpler but once again made participants meet new people. We had to find a random person we did not know and get together back to back. We then locked arms and had to dance while back to back. After the awkward dancing was over both partners would have to talk about something depending on what the announcers said.

Then you would either hug or handshake and move one to the next random person you ran into.

The next thing that was on the list was a break, but for the break once again, you would meet up with a random person and that person would be your break buddy.

The next couple of activities were team games such as volleyball where the goal was to score points like normal volleyball but, the twist was It didn’t matter who scored the team who screamed the loudest was the one who got the points and even then no points were tracked since it was only made to have fun, not to have a winner and loser.

The biggest thing of the day was when they grouped random people together along with one teacher to a group that was supposed to work like a family. These groups would spend a majority of the remainder of the day together and even had to eat lunch together.

The biggest activity was the Cross the Line at the end, the announcer would say something and if it had happened to you or is happening to you, you would have to cross the line. This was by far the hardest for people but, made people realize the struggle others go through on a daily basis.

In the end, everyone who had gone into that gym that day had come out a better person and hopefully, the spirit of Challenge Day stick with people for the rest of their lives.
