After The Storm

Hurricane season is upon us and students all over the school are being affected, especially by Hurricane Irma. Suffering from everything  as light as loss of power to roofs of homes being blown away.

According to CNN Money, the National Flood Insurance Program, part of FEMA, is often the only form of flood insurance available to homeowners. The amount paid out due to Harvey and Irma is $204 million dollars.

“Hurricane Irma was a terrible storm for my house,” junior Nathan Shields said.

“A lot of branches fell and one of our trees fell on the power line, leaving us without power for six days,” Shields said.

Six countries and seven islands reported having been affected by hurricane Irma. Irma began at a Category 5 and as the hurricane moved across the eastern coast and finally ended at a Category 1.

According to Orlando Sentinel, the Florida National Guard and county rescue teams pulled more than 200 people from hundreds of homes that flooded during Irma.
