The 25th annual Sweetheart court basketball game will be returning to the Reservation Thursday, Feb. 2 in the gym.
Each participating club nominates two seniors that are recognized during halftime of the boys varsity basketball game, after everyone on court walks down the , one boy and one girl are crowned as sweeheart prince and princess.
“Twenty four years ago the Senior Class officers were talking about the people that gave so much time and effort to Boone. They wanted them to be recognized for their time so they asked clubs to nominate people,” Senior Class sponsor Sarah Kittrell said.
Clubs cannot nominate students who were on homecoming court. Unlike last year, there will be no Sweetheart dance.
Some sports also decide to participate to show appreciation for their leaders. Participating sports consist of cheerleading, cross country, football and girls basketball.
“[Sweetheart court] is to get all the clubs together and show the importance of all the different sorts of clubs and honor them for all they do,” Senior Class officer Yazmine Ramos said.
