After filling in the last question to his matchmaker form, he anticipated the results that followed in next two weeks. ‘Who will be my number one’ went through everyone’s head.
“I think [the school looks forward to matchmakers]. I hear people asking ‘when are they coming out?’,” senior Louis Patrick said. “It’s what people think of when they think of Valentine’s Day.”
Matchmaker results, sold by the Hi-Lights newspaper staff, were Valentine’s Day fundraisers that were sold during lunch on Feb. 14- Fed. 17 for $2. However, Hi-Lights was not the only club that caught the fundraising bug on the Reservation. The Boone Animal Rescue Club and the French Honor Society began selling candy grams and chocolate heart lollypops, respectfully.
“[Selling these candies are important because] it not only brings couples together but it’s also helping the school out by raising money,” senior Rachel Mochado said.
The French Honor Society raised money to donate to Relay for Life; their goal was to sell over 200 lollypops, at $1.50 a piece.
“I’ve already bought two,” Mochado said. “They are a great way to say I love you.”
Being a club with the purpose of saving animals, BARC decided to take part in the holiday fun selling Candy Grams. They sold for $1 each and will be delivered to their admirer’s second period class on Feb. 14.
“People want to give and get candy and to show someone you care,” senior Erin Webb said. “[Our fundraiser] brings awareness to the school, we can save thousands of animals from authorization with help and by getting the word out.”
Hi-Lights uses the money earned from the matchmakers to help pay for their printing cost.
“[When the matchmakers come out] I like to watch people laugh and see who they got and watch them compare matches,” Patrick said. “Seeing their faces are priceless.”
