Describe your leadership style. I’m very driven in regard to helping people. It’s all about the students and teachers. I love working together to make a great learning environment.
What would be your ideal school environment? School should be safe, happy, exciting, academically driven and rigorous.
Why did you choose to work with high school students? I like high school students because I can rationalize easily with them. I like the opportunity to get them to the next level.
Describe your strengths and weaknesses. I’m a good team player. I’m assertive, organized and a good problem solver. My weakness would be high expectations. I expect a lot of myself, so I expect a lot of others.
What’s your motto? Sense of urgency would be my motto because I joined the Coast Guard after high school and everything we did was urgent, urgent, urgent. In regards to saving lives, everything was pressing. Everything I’ve done since then, I try to treat with respect because I keep it high priority. If I can’t make something happen, I’ll work until it’s done. I think it’s important because when kids make things urgent and relevant, they see the big picture. You’re going to fail at things, at times, but there’s always room for improvement.
Describe your high school experience. I went to high school in Long Island, New York– a very traditional high school. It was very similar to Boone. There were lots of cool, unique traditions and a diverse group of people. I had a really good experience playing sports. I love high school, that’s why I’m working with high school kids.
What do you find unique about Boone? Tradition- I come from Olympia High School, where I was a dean. It was a very new high school and I loved it, but Boone has lots of cool, unique traditions. Everyone is involved in something.
How do you feel about the addition of online learning? We should embrace it. Our school is moving along with the times and it’s a great addition to the environment. It gives students the tools and opportunities to grow.
What does your typical Saturday morning look like? I wake up before my family and go for a run- I like staying active. Then, I watch ESPN and wake up my son. After that, we’ll head to the beach or do any type of outdoor activity.
How do you think being a father impacts your job? It impacts it very much. It makes you handle every situation with caution. You always want to give students the benefit of the doubt. It’s my job to coach other students and help them in a positive manner.
